12th Luton Guides Visit to the 2003 Big Gig

The day of the 2003 Big Gig finally arrived following weeks of excited anticipation from the 13 lucky girls from 12th Luton Guides who managed to obtain tickets through their Guide Leader. The 12th Luton Guides made a weekend of it by arranging a sleepover at Woodcroft for the Saturday Night. The weekend started with a superb lunch of Chicken Nuggets and Chips followed by Ice Cream at Woodcroft. The group then went by luxury coach to Wembley Arena where they collected their souvenirs and then took their seats amongst the hustle and bustle and waited for the event to commence. The Arena exploded into a mayhem of teenage girls screams, whistles and popular music that did not let up until way after the final band had completed. The girls thrilled to the music of Atomic Kitten, Liberty X, Blazin Squad, and many more top contemporary bands and artists too many to mention. Despite the Guiders best attempts to calm things down during the sleepover the girls were still buzzing with excitement through Sunday and were still excitedly babbling as they left to go home late Sunday afternoon. A great time was had by all and even the Guiders secretly admit that they got caught up in the excitement of a tremendous show, this was reinforced by the pride of being part of a well organised Guiding event where all members behaved impeccably.

St Mary's District, Luton South, celebrate the Brownies 90th Year with a visit to Whipsnade Zoo.

The Brownies and Guides of St Mary's District celebrated the 90th year of Brownies on Saturday 8th May 2004 with a visit to Whipsnade Zoo. It was quite a wet day but event the rain could not dampen their spirit of Adventure. Whilst at the Zoo the girls saw many animals but their favorite was the Baby Elephant born in March of this year. They were lucky enough to find this marquee to have lunch during which one Brownie, two Young Leaders and one young Guider from 12th Luton Pack made or renewed their Promises.

After lunch the girls enjoyed the Bird Display, the Sealion Show and looking at more of the exhibits including this one of the chimps!

At the end of the day we went back to the marquee where we all enjoyed a piece of 90th Birthday cake and a drink of juice. The girls all thoroughly enjoyed the day.

BIG GIG 2005

A party of girls and leaders from 12th Luton Guides joined thousands of Guides from all over the UK to take part in this years Big Gig. As it was being held in Birmingham we set off from our meeting place at Haverings in Luton to travel to Birmingham. The girls were very excited to be traveling to the Gig and to see many stars including Friday Hill, Liberty X, Jenny frost, Jo O'Meara,Simon Webbe, Tony Christie, Lee Ryan and Girls Aloud. We arrived at the Birmingham NEC Arena in plenty of time so we had plenty of time to buy light wands,

badges, bears and t shirts. Once inside the Arena we took our seats and waited for the Gig to start. All of the Guides were in fine voice waiting in anticipation for the first act.

Tony Christie was the first act and things got better and better during the evening with Liberty X followed by Girls Aloud ending the evening. 2 1/2 hours of top class acts and lots of Guide participation in singing, clapping, screaming etc.

At the end of the evening it was back to the coach and the drive home to Luton arriving home at about midnight with tired but very happy girls. It is a pleasure to take part in an event with so many members and to see them all having such a good time.
12th Luton Guides raise over £300 for Luekemia

The 12th Luton guides and their guiders had decided to raise some money to help towards children with Leikemia. To do this the girls did a range of activities which as we decided were the chocolate challenges. We started with the history of chocolate and ended with making large cookies. Overall all the girls had fun. And they even got prizes depending on how much they raised. It was a good effort from all. Even the guiders took part. Well Done!!!
